Surrey, B.C. — The North Vancouver Wolf Pack showed plenty of fight Thursday night but came up just short in a 4–2 loss to the Surrey Knights at the North Surrey Sport and Ice Complex. A pair of shorthanded goals highlighted the Pack’s resilient effort, but a late third-period strike by the Knights proved to be the difference.
Surrey wasted little time getting on the board, striking just 1:35 into the opening frame. The Knights added another late in the period on the power play, capitalizing on extended zone pressure to take a 2–0 lead into the first intermission. North Vancouver goaltender Taylor weathered a barrage of shots, keeping the game within reach while the Pack found their footing.
The momentum began to shift midway through the second period. Killing off a penalty, Ryan Tse turned defense into offense, breaking free and snapping home a shorthanded marker at 11:41 to cut the deficit in half. The goal energized the Wolf Pack bench, and the team carried the play through the remainder of the period, outskating Surrey and generating several quality chances.
North Vancouver’s push continued into the third. Just over three minutes in, Riley Frame was awarded a penalty shot while shorthanded and made no mistake, beating St. Hilaire to tie the game 2–2. The Pack’s penalty killers were a story unto themselves, frustrating the Knights’ power play and sparking the comeback with timely plays at both ends of the ice.
The deadlock held until the closing minutes, when Surrey’s Rackow found space in the slot and buried the go-ahead goal at 17:51. North Vancouver pressed hard in the final minutes, pulling their goalie for the extra attacker, but Hayre sealed the result with an empty-netter at 19:21.
Despite the loss, the Wolf Pack showed resilience and opportunism, particularly on the penalty kill. Taylor made 36 saves on 39 shots, while the Pack registered 27 shots of their own. North Vancouver will look to build on the strong middle stretch of this game as they prepare for their next outing against Mission City on Saturday night.
