PANTHERS TAKE DOWN WOLF PACK 5-4

This morning in Richmond, the Port Moody Panthers defeated the North Vancouver Wolf Pack for the second time in five years. Port Moody had a 5-1 lead entering the third period, but the Wolf Pack picked up their pace and tried getting back on track, but their comeback bid fell just short. North Vancouver had seven opportunities on the man advantage but only managed one goal.

PERIOD 1

 

(PM) 8:46 – In his Panthers debut, defenceman Sahilpreet Deol recorded an assist on his team’s first goal of the game. Ethan Chu (1) Picked up a cross-ice pass from Deol and wired a shot home from the point.

 

(PM) 12:08 – Port Moody was full of energy inside of the Wolf Pack zone before doubling their lead in the game. Sahib Basra (4) took advantage of an open cage along the right side of Wolf Pack goaltender Owen Bonthuis. Callum Whiteway picked up the assist on the play.

PERIOD 2

 

(NV) 7:03 – Corson Penman (12) carried the puck over the Panthers’ blueline and shot the puck short-side off the inside of the goal post. Jason Scott and JJ Maros earned assists on the power play goal.

 

(PM) 10:32 – Port Moody had possession inside the Wolf Pack zone, with Dawson Toledo (6) putting the puck across the goal line on a wraparound goal.

 

(PM) 14:53 – It took 22 seconds for the Port Moody Panthers to capitalize on their first power play opportunity of the game. The Wolf Pack gave Panthers captain Connor Hughes (16) lots of time and room in front of their net, making it a 4-1 lead for the Panthers.

 

(PM) 15:34 – 41 seconds after the Panthers scored their last goal, their team was able to go up 5-1. Nicolas Lee and Enver Chan (2) were involved in a give-and-go that saw Chan go high-glove on Owen Bonthuis.

PERIOD 3

 

(NV) 3:02 – A quick wrist shot from Matthew Carniel (28) gave the Wolf Pack their second goal of the game as he caught the Port Moody defenders flat-footed. Carniel’s goal was unassisted, and Carniel’s point streak was extended to nineteen games.

 

(NV) 13:06 – The Port Moody Panthers could not keep the puck inside the North Van zone, facing a strong Wolf Pack forecheck. JJ Pickell (31) came down the ice on a breakaway and scored a five-hole goal on goaltender Ty Angus. 

 

(NV) 14:47 – The Wolf Pack were able to pull within a goal thanks to a wrist shot from Anthony Reimer (5). The shot was enough to fool Ty Angus, who had lots of traffic in front of his crease. Matthew Carniel and Ryan Hunter earned assists.
